Oakland, KY (9/19/2011) - Ballance
Racing Team resumed GNCC racing action this past
weekend at the renowned Unadilla Motorsports Complex
in New Berlin, New York. Racers and fans alike were
greeted with spectacular weather and track conditions
following 7 inches of rain only days prior to the
event. Ballance Racing riders were feeling confident
about the race after walking the 9 mile course which
featured open field and woods sections, tight sections
with slick rocks, and even parts of the infamous
U1 and U2 MX tracks. The team was anxious to see
all of their off season testing and training pay
off.
In the premiere XC1 Pro class, Ballance Racing
rider Taylor Kiser was poised and ready to do
Battle. "Coming into the weekend I was feeling
confident. I had been working hard over the break
and was definitely looking for a win. Things didn't
go as planned, in the first corner I tried to
nose my way into a good start and was pushed into
the pole. Once I picked myself up and got going
I was in last.
" Kiser wouldn't let his day be ruined there,
though, and remounted a charge for the leading
pack. "As the race progressed I was making
head way behind Bithell and McGill. I opted to
pit early and it bit me. It allowed some lap riders
in between us and I couldn't make up the time."
Though disappointed, Kiser would put in 3 fast
laps in at the end of the race when teammate Walker
Fowler caught him. The pair would take turns leading
one another, and ultimately set one of the fastest
paces of the race. "My teammate Walker caught
up with me and we were able to turn out some good
laps at the end of the race. I am definitely disappointed
with the out come from this weekend. Over the
next two weeks I am going to put my head down
and come to somerset looking for some redemption!
" Taylor finished the race in a respectable
5th in class and 6th Overall.
In the XC2 Pro-Am division, Ballance Racing rider
Walker Fowler was looking to build on his undefeated
8 for 8 season with another class win and remain
in the Top 10 Overall. Fowler would begin the
day with a great start.
"I've struggled with starts pretty much
all season due to rider error. I just get nervous
and mess the whole thing up, I knew today I couldn't
do that and focused on getting a holeshot, but
I was happy to enter the woods in 3rd! "
Fowler would waste no time reaching for the front
of not only the XC2 class but also the XC1 division.
" I got into the lead of XC2 within the
first 2 miles and I just felt awesome. I felt
fast but in control and I knew I had an awesome
first lap because I could see Borich, Bithell,
McGill, all the front runners on the MX track,
similar to Rock Run this year." Fowler would
continue his charge, but would run into some much
needed help at the beginning of lap 5.
"I caught Taylor right when I was getting
tired, I had lost the overall lead by .8 seconds,
and I really needed to pick up my pace. Taylor
jumped in behind me and pushed me a whole lap,
I pulled over and let him lead a lap, then he
let me back by on the white flag lap. We were
putting down some mean laps and I was able to
make up 7 seconds to beat Borich on adjusted time
for my 2nd Overall victory this year. I really
owe Taylor a huge 'Thank You' because I know I
would have given up without his help. It's just
insane to get another overall; couldn't be more
happy!"
Ballance Racing will be headed to the Mountain
Ridge GNCC in Somerset, PA September 24-25, 2011.
