Oakland, KY (5/19/2011) - During
the week before the Indy 100, the Ballance Racing
crew knew that there were chances for some bad weather.
During the morning race, the weather stayed sunny
and beautiful. As the racers headed to the line
for the afternoon race, it looked like it was going
to be another wonderful day of racing. Unfortunately
during the latter half of the race, Mother Nature
decided to make promise of her word and gifted us
with rain and a sloppy mess for a race.
Nine time champ Bill Ballance had taken the prior
two rounds off in order to get some more training
and testing done being since two DNF’s during
the start of the season had ended any hope of
having a championship run for the 2011 season.
Bill stated “during the first two races,
I wasn’t really physically ready. I didn’t
get a whole lot of time to train once I was finally
released from the doctor to ride again. I figured
if I could just get out there and survive the
first three rounds, it would slowly help me get
back in to the shape needed to go out and try
to win some races throughout the rest of the season.
That was my goal but I had some bike problems
that pretty much knocked me out of the championship
run. Being since that had happened, my main focus
now is to just train with the boys and make sure
that every time I roll up to the line that I can
be a contender for a race win”.
Bill has been working really hard over the last
month or so in order to stay true to his goal.
Despite the foul weather for which has left the
Ballance Racing crew with very inadequate time
to do any kind of training, Bill still felt ready
to race his Yamaha YFZ450X in Gosport, IN. “
I knew with having the last gate pick that the
only chance of a good start was line up on the
inside. When the flag dropped, my bike started
perfectly and I was able to go into the woods
in third, but every time I started feeling like
I had a good roll going something crazy would
happen. I think by the time I came around on the
first lap I was back to eight and then between
fighting with lappers and the track conditions,
I was never able to get back up to the front”
stated Ballance.
Taylor Kiser has also been very motivated over
the last several weeks to train and get himself
back into the finishing positions for which are
expected by himself and all. He has even made
a special trip to his Alabama training grounds
just to try to find some decent weather and time
to get some proper training in. Of course the
weather that struck that area and some other unexpected
setbacks made short of that plan and ended up
not allowing Taylor hardly any training time prior
to the race. The weather has made it a real hard
season for Taylor for who is which use to riding
and training a minimum of five to six times a
week. “I was still really excited to finally
get to ride and race this weekend despite only
getting to ride just a handful of times over the
past couple of weeks. I didn’t have the
greatest of a start due to getting slammed around
on the way up to and in to the first corner and
I was pretty sure I was one of the last ones going
in to the woods so I just put my head down and
charged pretty hard and worked my way up to 5th
on the first lap. On the second lap, I got stuck
behind a lapper that had flipped over right in
front of me in one of the bottoms, I had nowhere
to go and had to wait what seemed like forever
for him to move his bike enough for me to get
by him. I knew that cost me a lot of time so I
started trying to catch back up the lead pack
but then the rain came which made things worse
and actually ended making the race a lap short
and not allowing me to get them back in my sights”
said Taylor Kiser.
XC2 points leader Walker Fowler started the
day off with a hole shot which was helped by the
new Balance Racing sponsor, Anti Gravity Batteries,
and his Moto-xperts motor. He rocketed up the
gradual uphill start to the first corner and never
looked back. He charged so hard on the first lap
that he was only 20 seconds off the overall, but
was slowed down on lap two when having to go around
a lapper blocking the trail and ended up getting
some metal fencing in his rear axle which brought
his YFZ450X to a halt. “I knew with the
possible rain that I wanted a good start and did
not want to have to come from the back so I just
tried really hard to make sure I got the start
just right and it all worked out from there. I
felt like I was riding good, and then the fence
got hung up in the rear tires, but luckily we
were able to get it out before anyone caught up
and bring it on in for the win” stated Walker.
The Ballance Racing team left round five of the
GNCC series with Taylor in 3rd in XC1 points chase
and Walker extending his point’s lead in
the XC2 class. They are now headed back to Ballance
Racing shop in Kentucky to help prepare Thomas
Brown for the 6th round of the ATV MX Championship
series race at Steel City Raceway in Delmont,
Pa on May 21st.
