Baldwin Motorsports' Josh Upperman placed
third overall at Red Bud. Upperman is
just 10 points behind points leader John
Natalie after Round 10 |
North Kingsville, OH (8/2/2011)
- Baldwin Motorsports’ Josh
Upperman braved the hot temperatures and rough
track, taking to the podium once again after grabbing
both moto holeshots at round number ten of the
2011 AMA ATV Motocross Championships.
Red Bud was the hosting facility for round
ten and racers were greeted by hot weather and
a challenging track, but Josh Upperman had a
little extra support this weekend as former
Baldwin racing legend, Tim Farr was in attendance
to give a little guidance and support to Upperman,
which helped instill confidence and momentum.
“It was really great having Tim out there.
I have a lot of respect for him and it was good
motivation for me,” stated Upperman.

Josh
Upperman was able to pull the holeshot
in both Moto 1 & Moto 2 |
As the gate dropped, Josh Upperman grabbed
the moto one holeshot, but the tough whoop section
got the better of him and he fell back. Upperman
charged hard, recording his fastest lap time
of the moto in lap six with a time of 01:52.316.
Upperman kept the hammer down and claimed third
in the first moto. “Those whoops were
really a challenge, and that’s where I
lost time, but I still had a good finish and
I am happy about that,” said the number
20 Honda rider.

Upperman placed third both motos aboard
his Baldwin Motorsports powered Honda
TRX450R ATV |
In the second moto, Upperman again grabbed
the holeshot once again and led for three laps
before coming under fire from John Natalie and
Thomas Brown. Upperman was holding strong, but
was not able to take the whoops as fast as his
challengers, which sent him back. Upperman charged
hard and kept close to the leaders but was unable
to make a pass before reaching the checkered
flag and would take another third place finish,
giving him third overall on the pro podium.
Upperman’s efforts have him sitting in
second place in the points chase going into
the final round, and with only ten points separating
him from the points leader, Upperman is still
a contender for the 2011 pro championship.
“It isn’t over yet. There are still
two motos left and that’s a lot of racing,
so just about anything can happen out there.
Mark Baldwin and Wayne Meridian have been working
really hard and giving me great support all
season so I’m going to be training ten
times as hard and I’m going to go out
there, and give it my all for them, and hopefully
end up on top of the box,” stated Upperman.
The final round of the 2011 AMA ATV Motocross
Championships will head to Loretta Lynn’s
In Hurricane Mills, TN where Baldwin Motorsports’
Josh Upperman will be going for a win in hopes
of securing his first-ever national pro championship.
