North Kingsville, OH (7/18/2011)
- Baldwin Motorsports’ Josh
Upperman charged hard to take the number two spot
on the podium at round number nine of the 2011
AMA ATV Motocross Championship and close in on
the pro points lead.
Track conditions at Unadilla were rough and
a bit rocky, but Josh Upperman was ready as
he charged off the start in the first moto.
Upperman was in the top five and closing in
on the leaders. Upperman rode a smart race and
was able to make clean passes, working his way
into the number two spot and holding that position
for four laps before taking it to the checkered
flag. “The track at Unadilla is really
hard packed and it gets rough so it can really
wear you out, but I felt pretty good out there,”
said Upperman.

In the second moto, Upperman got an even better
start, charging off the line in second place.
Upperman had his hands full as John Natalie
was right behind him in third. Upperman held
him off for most of the race, but in the final
two laps, Upperman would fall back to third.
“I knew that I was going to get second
on the podium if I finished the moto in second
or third, so I just played it smart,”
said Upperman.
With Upperman’s impressive performance,
he is now only three points off the lead and
could take over the points lead at Red Bud if
he is able to finish ahead of points leader
Natalie. Last year, Upperman took the moto one
win at Red Bud and followed it up with a third
place finish in moto two, giving him third on
the podium and he is hoping for an even better
finish this year.
“I plan on doing some extra training
in between rounds and hopefully I will be on
the podium again and stay consistent and stay
ahead of John Natalie,” said Upperman.
Round number ten of the 2011 AMA ATV Motocross
Championships will be heading to Red Bud in
Buchanan, MI on July 30th, where Baldwin Motorsports’
Josh Upperman will be trying to take over the
pro points lead in his quest for his first pro
championship
