Baldwin Motorsports' #20 Josh Upperman
is making a habit of being up on the podium |
North Kingsville, OH (3/23/2011)
- Baldwin Motorsports’ Josh
Upperman looked strong and consistent as he charged
his way to his second podium finish of the season
at round two of the 2011 AMA ATV Motocross Championships.
Mill Creek in Pell City, AL was the hosting
facility where weather conditions were good
for racing, with overcast skies and mild temps.
Track conditions were also favorable early in
the day but began to deteriorate later on, however,
that didn’t stop Josh Upperman from putting
on a solid performance.
After a podium finish at round one in Georgia,
Josh Upperman followed it up with another podium
at round two at Mill Creek. Upperman came off
the start in fifth in the first moto, and after
just a couple of laps, was closing in on Nick
DeNoble, who was in fourth. Upperman applied
the pressure and made it look easy as he took
over the number four spot. From there, Upperman
was closing in on veteran racer Joe Byrd, who
was in third, but ran out of time before he
was able to make a move, leaving him to settle
for a fourth place finish in moto one.

In moto two, Upperman was in a solid third
and found himself right behind Joe Byrd once
again. This time Upperman was in a better position
to make a move on the number seven Honda and
began to apply the pressure. Byrd fought back,
but Upperman kept his cool and stayed on the
gas and soon was able to take over the number
two spot. Upperman held his position for several
laps before he and John Natalie would battle
it out. Upperman held off Natalie for almost
two laps before he fell back to third, where
he would remain until reaching the checkered
flag. Upperman’s consistent finishes earned
him the third spot on the podium and put him
in a solid third in the pro points chase with
61 points.
“Overall I’m pretty happy with
how everything went this weekend. I got on the
podium and that’s what I set out to do.
I have to thank everyone at Baldwin Motorsports
for all their hard work and helping me get where
I am. I’m going to be doing a lot of training
while I’m home and get ready for Bowling
Green,” said Upperman.
“Pell City was a good race. We had a
good set up for that track and Josh was also
working really hard, so we’re pretty happy
with how everything went. Now we’re getting
ready for Bowling Green; it’s not as high
speed as Mill Creek so we will be doing a few
changes to get ready for that track and we hope
to have Josh on the podium again,” stated
Mark Baldwin.
Round number three of the 2011 AMA ATV Motocross
Championships will be heading to Bowling Green,
KY on April 2nd, where Baldwin Motorsports’
Josh Upperman will again be going for the win.
