#20 Josh Upperman with Baldwin Motorsports,
Mark Baldwin |
North Kingsville, OH (3/1/2011)
- Baldwin Motorsports’ Josh
Upperman showed that he is definitely a contender
for the 2011 AMA ATV Motocross Championship title
as he grabbed the first holeshot of the season
and battled his way to the podium.
Track and weather conditions were near perfect
at Aonia Pass in Washington, GA as racers lined
up for the first Pro Production moto of the
day. Baldwin Motorsports' Josh Upperman, who
had a knack for grabbing holeshots last season,
picked up right where he left off last year
by taking the first holeshot of the 2011 season.
“Everyone went wide in the first turn
so I decided to take an inside line and I got
underneath everyone and got out front,”
Upperman explained.

battling #13 John Natalie |
After taking the holeshot, Upperman immediately
came under fire from the Can-Am team. Upperman
battled hard and held off both John Natalie
and Chad Wienen for several laps before landing
in third, where he put a comfortable gap between
him and the rest of the pack and took his position
all the way to the checkered flag. “It
felt good to grab the lead early, but the competition
is tough and everyone is really eager to win.
I’ve been training hard in the off season
and I am hoping to take a win soon,” said
Upperman, who spent a couple of months training
down in Florida over the winter.
In moto two, Upperman was in third off the
start, and after battling with Harold Goodman
and Wienen, Natalie once again, he settled into
a comfortable third place. Upperman’s
strong performance and solid 3-3 finishes was
enough to secure him the final position on the
Pro podium. “I think this was a great
way to start off the season but my goal is to
be winning as many races as possible and continue
to stay consistent and do well,” he stated.

Motocross Series hosted in Washington,

“This was a real good weekend for an
opening round. Josh is running a solid program
and has been training hard so he was ready to
go. He made it to the podium so overall it was
a great weekend for us.” stated Mark Baldwin,
who foresees Upperman as being a regular figure
on the podium this season.
Round number two of the 2011 AMA ATV Motocross
Championships will be held on March 19th-20th
in Pell City, Alabama where Josh Upperman and
the Baldwin Motorsports team will be battling
