As one-hour sports special on NBC TV

Los Angeles, CA (12/5/05) - The 38th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race will be broadcast Saturday, December 10 at 3 p.m. (Eastern Time, Noon Pacific) as a one-hour sports special on NBC TV. Part of the continuing coverage of the six-race 2005 SCORE Desert Series, the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 was held on Nov. 18-19, on the northern part of the rugged Baja California, Mexico, peninsula, starting and finishing in Ensenada.

With a near race-record 342 starters competing in 24 Pro and 5 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks, motorcycles and ATVs, the team of Larry Roeseler, Hesperia, Calif./Troy Herbst, Las Vegas, successfully defending their overall 4-wheel vehicle and unlimited Class 1 titles in the granddaddy of all desert races.

Steve Hengeveld, Oak Hills, Calif./Johnny Campbell, San Clemente, Calif./Mike Childress, Wrightwood, Calif., teamed up to give American Honda its ninth consecutive Overall and Class 22 motorcycle victory.

Another one-hour special on the legendary event will air three times in December on the Outdoor Life Network (OLN) with the first airing set for Sunday, December 18 at 9 p.m. (ET) and 9 p.m. (PT).

With entries from 31 U.S. States and 12 countries, the legendary race featured the world’s best desert racers along with a host of crossover racers including NASCAR’s Robby Gordon and Michel Jourdain Jr., 2004 Indy 500 winner Buddy Rice, two-time Champ Car World Series point champion Sebastian Bourdais, and X-games and Supercross star Travis Pastrana. Television stars competing this year included Jesse James of Monster Garage, Patrick Dempsey of Grey’s Anatomy, and Chip Foos of Overhaulin’.

Adding to the coverage of this year’s historic event will be a two-part series on Discovery Channel’s Monster Garage in January and a two-hour special on the making of the 2005 Tecate SCORE Baja 500 and the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 in air on Discovery HD in early spring of 2006.

Airing on OLN on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006 at 3 p.m. (ET, Noon PT) will be Travis Pastrana’s Baja Diaries.

Testament to the difficulty of this year’s 708.8-mile course, there were only 163 ‘survivors’ out of the original starting field who made it to the finish line inside the Deportivo Antonio Palacios baseball stadium within the 30-hour time limit.

December will see six hours of national network and cable television of 2005 SCORE desert races.
