Scotland (6/14/2011) - ATV World Yamaha rider John Mitchell took
the overall win at the Duns MX Track in round
two of the Goldspeed ACU British Quadcross Championships
onboard his Laeger’s Yamaha YZF450R.
On a rough and muddy track, John was running
ninth in qualifying until in the dying seconds,
he made a flying lap to get fourth. This gave
John a good gate position and as race one started,
he stormed into second position just behind
Paul Holmes. John continued to press and Paul
came off. Now leading, he surged forward and
increased his lead to 15 seconds ahead of Paul
Winrow and Jason Macbeth. On the penultimate
lap, John stalled and was passed by the two
Hondas. He quickly rejoined the race and blasted
his way up to Macbeth, managing to retake the
position but Winrow had since finished and John
had to accept second place.

Determined to increase his points lead, John
started race two looking for the lead but found
a pile up going into the first corner. Trailing
in tenth place John pushed and began closing
in on the leaders. Soon it was Holmes up front
with Watson and John putting the pressure on.
The action had spectators on edge as the fast
riders tussled for lead position. Already hurting
from coming off in race one, Holmes was passed
by Watson and John. Watson was fast but John
was right behind him and took a better line
through the main tabletop, rocketing past Watson
midair in one of the most impressive overtakes
of the round. The two stayed tight for a few
more laps until Watson came off a tabletop and
dropped his position to a resurgent Holmes.
John steered his quad past the finish line,
claiming first place and the overall win.
The overall victory means that John has won
six rounds out of six entered so far this season.
This is his best start to a campaign since 2007
and he was clearly delighted after extending
his lead in the British Championships.
“I pushed hard in both races and was
unlucky when it stalled. It could have turned
out differently - better or worse. It’s
been one of those rounds. Lots happening with
a number of crashes and offs. My Laeger’s
Yamaha has been absolutely flawless this season
and I have to say thanks to ATV World for the
work they have put into it. Duns has been a
rough track today and the way the Elka suspension
handled it has been superb. I’m feeling
fit and fresh, even when I’ve finished
two races so really looking forward to round
three.”
