Danville, VA (4/27/2008) -
The Birch Creek Motocross track belonged to
Honda's Joe Byrd this weekend as he ran away
with two Moto wins and secures his first overall
win of the year in front of yet another record
race crowd at the AMA ATV Motocross Nationals.
Byrd's DASA Powered Honda TRX450R was unstoppable
this weekend as he was able to out power
the field both Motos and grabbed the Holeshot,
and he lead nearly every lap of both Motos,
and the overall win was huge for the 2-time
defending champion as he rebounded up into
the points chase for a chance at yet another
championship.
Suzuki's Dustin Wimmer challenged Byrd
both Motos, and held the lead for a short
time in Moto One before Byrd regained the
lead once again and held it to the checkered
flag. Byrd gained an advantage over Wimmer
each lap by tripling the huge uphill triple,
while Wimmer decided not to risk it and
double the jump each lap.
For Wimmer, it was his 4th straight Podium
finish of the season, which streches Wimmer's
points lead (178 points) out to out to 33
points over teammate Doug Gust (145 points)
who just missed yet another Podium finish
by just 1 point.
East Coast ATV's Jason Dunkelberger was
able to overcome the gremlins this weekend
and claim the final Podium spot with a (3-8)
performance, which was enough to edge out
Doug Gust(4-7) and Jeremy Lawson (6-5).
Can-Am's Jeremy Lawson recorded his best
finish of the year with a 5th place overall
run, and he appears to be figuring out his
new Epic Racing DS450 ride.
Warnert Racing / Can-Am's John Natalie
Jr raced with an eye infection, which limited
his vision to just one eye, so he was off
his game this weekend. Also, Suzuki's Chad
Wienen was racing with a collarbone injury,
which kept him from racing in the 2nd Moto,
which dropped him back out of his top three
spot in points.
A full race report and press release to
come along with complete results and photos
from this weekend's Birch Creek round of
the AMA ATV Motocross Naionals.
