KTM's Tim Farr |
Morgantown, WV (8/22/2007) - Eleven-time
Pro ATV Champion, 2006 ATVA Extreme Dirt
Track Pro Champion and 2006 ATVA Athlete
of the Year, Tim Farr commented on the coming
weekend's AMA Pro ATV Open Invitational
from the International KTM Sport ATV Launch
in Providence, Rhode Island held on August
19-20. The AMA Pro ATV Open Invitational
will take place this Saturday, August 25th
at Steel City Raceway, sharing the weekend
with Round 10 of the AMA/Toyota Motocross
Championships presented by FMF. This unique
event will bring twenty of the fastest AMA
Pro ATV riders in front of the national
caliber crowd in Delmont, PA for the first
time in history.
"I think [the ATV Open is] a great
idea," Tim Farr said. "I know
it's been talked about before, and they
needed to be able to fit it into the schedule
to not upset anybody you know-to make the
track work for everybody."
"It's great because I think there's
going to be some motorcycle industry people
that really see what the top quad guys can
do," Farr said. "In the past;
I can understand at a local level when I
go to a local race, when the bike guys watch
the quad guys and it's not so impressive,
but when you see the Pro level, it's every
bit as competitive as Supercross; the speeds
are amazing."
"[The lap times are] very close,"
Farr continued. "Some tracks it's not;
it just depends on how brutal and how rough.
You know, some of the faster tracks, the
ATV lap times are very close."
As far as predictions go, "I'd have
to say Gust," Farr said. "I don't
think you can ever count him out. Wienen's
really training hard; he's a good guy. He's
going really fast and worked extremely hard,
and basically came out of nowhere, so I'd
like to see him do well."
Recently, Tim Farr worked hands-on with
KTM's Research and Development team to help
launch the 2008 KTM 525 XC and 450 XC Sport
quads, which Farr looks forward to entering
into competition. "We might do some
of it next year," Farr said of his
entry form. "We've got a little bit
of work to do to get a motocross setup going,
but it'll be fun."
Steel City Raceway has hosted a round of
the AMA Motocross Championship since 1988,
and hosted a round of the ITP/Moose Racing
ATVA MX Nationals for the first time last
year. The track features plenty of elevation
changes and jumps, all laid out in a valley
which provides some of the best spectator
viewing in the sport. Amateur bike racing
takes place on Friday.
The inaugural AMA Pro ATV Open at Steel
City will take place on Saturday, August
25th in Delmont, Pennsylvania. The event
