Suzuki Teammates Lead ATV MX
Going Into Birch Creek National
AMA ATV Motocross Nationals
- Round 3 - Birch Creek - May 1-2,2010
Danville, VA (4/30/2010) - After
two rounds of the 2010 ITP/Moose Racing AMA ATV
Motocross Championship the Suzuki duo of Defending
Champion Dustin Wimmer and Josh Creamer appear
to have a handle on the standings, as the two
sit at the top of the pack going into round three,
the Birch Creek National in Danville, VA, held
May 1-2.
While Creamer and Wimmer have been able to take
the first two rounds between them, riders like
Motoworks Can-Am's Chad Wienen and John Natalie
Jr., Baldwin Motorsports PEP's Josh Upperman and
Joe Byrd Quad Riding School's Joe Byrd have been
close to taking those wins away. Natalie took
a first moto win at Ballance Moto X, but mechanical
issues took him out in moto two. Problems aside,
Natalie will be gunning for an overall win this
weekend. Byrd and Wienen are also looking for
their first overall, after both took wins last
year. With eight rounds left in the series after
this weekend, it's still fair to see that it's
anyone's championship.
The Birch Creek track is technically challenging
and takes advantage of the hilly terrain, using
strategically placed single, double and triple
jumps. This includes several table top jumps,
whoops and sand sections. The track surface features
good old Virginia red clay on the hills with sand
sections in the flats.
Tickets on Sunday are $15 for fans ($10 for ages
6-11), and admission includes full pro pit access,
and an autograph session.
The pro class will feature two 20-minute races
on Sunday, taking place at noon and 3 p.m., with
the combined scores of both races determining
the overall winner.
The pro riders will run as part of a full schedule
of amateur racing, including classes for Youth,
Women and veteran riders. Amateurs will practice
on Friday and race on Saturday and Sunday. Pros
will practice on Saturday and race on Sunday.
To get to the track from US 58 East of Danville,
VA across from Airport go North on Kentuck Road
(State Route 729) 12 miles to track on left.
