Suzuki's Dustin Wimmer Leads
Pro Pack to Ballance Moto X
AMA ATV Motocross - Round
2 - Bowling Green, KY - April 17-18, 2010
Bowling Green, KY (4/16/2010)
- One round into the ITP/Moose Racing
AMA ATV Motocross Championship presented by Parts
Unlimited, and Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Dustin
Wimmer leads the AM Pro ATV pack with 1-1 moto
finishes. But at Ballance Moto X this weekend,
the story may change as
Wimmer isn't always the strongest at this track.
If Wimmer continues that trend, it could leave
the door open for other riders to challenge him
early in the season.
Last year at Ballance, Joe Byrd and Chad Wienen
were able to cut in front of Wimmer on the podium.
This season, Wimmer's biggest competition has
been the # 44 of Chad Wienen, who looks strong
with his new Can-Am. Wimmer is also seeing fierce
competition out of his new teammate, # 9 Josh
Creamer.
The event takes place at the Ballance Moto X
track, designed by nine-time GNCC ATV National
Champion Bill Ballance. The 1.3 mile, lighted
track is
made of natural terrain, and has been hosting
the AMA ATV Motocross
Championship since 2006. The track is challenging,
but shouldn't come to any surprise to the riders.
If Wimmer can improve, he'll have a solid base
to the 2010 season.
Besides the top three riders of the season so
far, other riders have stepped up to challenge.
Motoworks Can-Am's John Natalie and Baldwin Motorsports
PEP rider Josh Upperman both saw excellent results
at Millcreek, with Natalie finishing fourth overall
with 3-5 moto finishes. Upperman finished fifth
overall with 2-6 moto finishes. Not to be left
out of the mix is the likes of Walsh Racecraft's
Jeremy Lawson, Yamaha's Thomas Brown, Joe Byrd
Quad Riding School's Joe Byrd, Media Allstar's
Patrick Brown and Cody Miller.
The weekend also includes a full slate of amateur
racing, including classes for riders as young
as six-years-old, as well as veteran divisions
for riders over the age of 50. Practice, qualifying
and racing will take place on Saturday and Sunday.
Pro riders will practice on Saturday and race
on Sunday. Fans are invited to come early each
day to tour the open pro pits and attend free
autograph sessions, while also checking out the
best amateur riders in the nation, who will be
racing all weekend.
Sunday tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for
children age 6-11. To get to the track, take I-65
North to exit 28 "Corvette Museum";
right off the exit ramp on 31W; go approximately
9 miles on your left.
