England (8/21/2012) - The beautiful
Hampshire countryside provides the setting for round
five of the ACU British Quadcross Championship this
Bank Holiday weekend. The event is held on Sunday
26th August during the prestigious Ken Hall Trophy
weekend and is organised by Langrish MCRC. The circuit
at Manor Farm is one of the most spectacular in
the country, offering plenty of action with a hard
packed surface, spectacular jumps and drops.
Current British Championship leader Paul Holmes
will be looking to further extend his lead after
finishing second place overall in the European
Championship. Winning overall at every round so
far this year, Holmes will be the man to beat
at Langrish.
Round four was held earlier this month at FatCats
Moto Parc in Doncaster. Under 21 rider Thomas
Claireaux impressed many with a superb holeshot
in race one only to lose his lead to Paul Holmes
who steered his way to the front before the end
of the first lap. Carl Bunce (who will be racing
at Pont de Vaux this weekend) and Justin Reid
battled well, both of them suffering from their
seats coming off on the gruelling sand circuit.
Behind them, under 21 rider Connor Smith was catching
up after coming off. There was also a surprise
return from current QX Champion John Mitchell
who worked his way from the back to fifth place
while being pursued by Oli Sansom in sixth. Holmes
completed the race with a comfortable 22.6 second
lead over Bunce and Reid.
After a packed day’s racing which also
included the Youth Championships, the final day’s
race took place under dark and threatening skies.
Before the race had reached the halfway point,
it was red flagged when Lindsey Duke came off
badly. Due to the time of day, the torrential
rain and the medical services being tied up dealing
with the accident a decision was made to abandon
the race and no points were scored.
Smith took the overall win in the under 21s and
also had looked in contention for race two. Duke
won in the Masters and Anthony Canavan took a
tough first place finish in the Clubman class.
Riders will be looking for more points this weekend
on what is sure to be another thrilling day of
racing for riders and spectators alike.
Admission on Sunday costs £10 with racing
taking place from 11:30am. As it is the 2012 Ken
Hall Trophy two day event, camping is also available
at £15 per unit. Admission cost for events
on Monday is £20 (concessions half price
and under 14s free). The track is at Manor Farm
in Langrish, situated three miles south of Petersfield
on the A272, postcode GU32 1RG. Further information
about the track can be found at www.langrishmx.com
