England (9/6/2011) -
Jason Macbeth took yet another podium at the 2011
Goldspeed British Quad Championship on the August
bank holiday, Sunday 28th. Promoted at the extremely
popular and technical Langrish circuit, this weekend
hosted the 45th annual ‘Ken Hall Motocross
Trophy’, the oldest international motocross
event in Europe which opened the gates to hundreds
of spectators to experience intense and thrilling
quad racing on this immaculately prepared hard pack
circuit.
Securing a good pick of gate with an excellent
4th fastest time in qualifying,
Jason got a decent drive off the line and slotted
in to 7th as the thirty strong field
charged out. Quickly finding his rhythm, Jason
set a blistering pace in the early
stages pushing through the field to take 4th position
at the halfway point. Not
satisfied with his new found 4th, Jason kicked
his tempo up a gear and began to
charge for the front runners leaving his previous
battles in the dust. In a valiant
effort Jason began creeping up on the front runners
making up a seven second
deficit to three seconds in just three laps, but
time was his only disadvantage
and forced him to finish the first Moto with a
creditable 4th place.
As the gates dropped for the final twenty-five
minute plus two-lap Moto,
Jason got a fantastic start and swept up the inside
to sot into 3rd on the opening
lap. Although determined to battle with the front
runners this time, Jason
was forced to sacrifice aggression for defensive
riding as he was caught up
in an intense two way battle with 11 times British
Champion Paul Winrow.
Throughout the fourteen action packed laps no
more than a second divided
the two, the tussle and relentless pace kept the
hundreds of spectators fixed
as Jason fought to hold off an insistent Winrow.
After thirty minutes the
determined Honda Four Tech rider charged through
the chequered flag for a
fantastic and well deserved 3rd, with Winrow only
0.46 seconds behind.
“It’s been a really good day and
if only for getting a better start I couldn’t
have given any
more. Both races had their own issues, I didn’t
get a great start in the first race so I had to
work my way through the pack which gave the front
runners time to slip away, although I
made up a lot of the gap, I ran out of time to
get near them. For the second race I had a great
start and was adamant to catch the front runner
but I got involved in my own battle with Paul,
I couldn’t ride the lines I wanted because
it might have given him the opportunity to pass
so
I rode smart and settled for the safer lines.
Everything worked perfectly for me today, my
PEP / Lonestar set up is spot on, my fitness and
speed is really good so now I’m looking
forward to the last two day meeting at Milton
where I’ll give the ride of my life to secure
a
good finish for those vital points I lost in the
last round, hopefully finishing the year on the
podium”.
