Goldspeed ACU British Quad Championship - Round 4 - July 24, 2011

Paul Holmes ATV Holeshot

Holmes Racing rider Paul Holmes was the fastest in QMX1 at Tinker Hill

Cumbria (7/18/2011) - The ACU Goldspeed British Quadcross Championship visits the dramatic hilltop setting of Dean Moor Motocross Park in Cumbria this Sunday for round four of the adult championship and youth round three. Hosted by the NETT Quad Championship, this fast paced track with panoramic views of the Lake District will provide a breathtaking backdrop for another action packed day of racing.

The previous round took place on 2nd July in Northern Ireland at the revamped Tinker Hill Motocross Track. It was Paul Holmes who had the pace in QMX1 as he took both the fastest time in free practice and holeshot for race one. He pushed hard and had created a 10 second lead over Mark Watson and John Mitchell until he suffered a flat tyre with only six laps remaining. As Holmes battled to keep Watson from overtaking on the outside, Mitchell took his chance on the penultimate lap to overtake both riders on the inside, taking the win with Watson second and Holmes third.

Mitchell took the holeshot in race two but hit a burm shortly afterwards allowing Holmes to pass. Holmes took the win six seconds ahead of Mitchell with Watson a further 30 seconds behind. That result left John Mitchell with the overall win, followed by Paul Holmes in second and Mark Watson taking third.

Current 2011 ACU Goldspeed British Quadcross Championship standings:
John Mitchell (Yamaha) 144, Mark Watson (KTM) 99, David Wray (Honda) 98, James Hellewell (KTM) 89, Carl Bunce (Suzuki) 84, Giles Davis (Honda) 81

Watson’s KTM team mate James Hellewell gave a solid performance to take fifth overall and first overall in the under 21 Championships. He led ahead of Stefan Murphy and Cian Rodgers. In the Masters Championship, a superb performance from Paul Harkness gave him the overall win after a second and first place finish which saw both Harkness and McConway in a tense race one battle. Anthony Barrett took second overall while McConway took third overall with the win in race one.

With no youth round at Tinker Hill, round three will be taking place at Dean Moor. With many riders entering the various youth classes, there will be plenty of action throughout the day. Racing starts at 10am. The postcode for the venue is CA14 4RH. Further information about the track can be found at www.deanmoormotocrosspark.co.uk.
