Duns, UK (6/7/2011) - Eight weeks
after the opening round at Silverstone, this weekend
the Goldspeed ACU British Quad Championship heads
to Duns MX track. Duns is one of Scotland's best
MX facilities having been established over 20 years. This
Sunday, Duns will play host to all classes competing
in what is sure to be an action packed second round
organised by Quad Racing Scotland.
Dominating the first round, John Mitchell took
two straight wins and so far hasn’t lost
a round in any competition this season. Hot on
his heels and joint on 38 points are Carl Bunce
who had an excellent first round finishing in
second and James Hellewell who made a superb start
with third place overall and is also leading the
Under 21 Championship ahead of Stef Murphy and
Cian Rogers.
With Justin Reid four points behind on 34 and
David Wray on 33 there is no doubt that it’s
tight at the top. After a round to forget, current
British champion Paul Winrow will be looking to
secure a podium finish and work his way back up
the leader board.
In the ACU British Masters there had been some
frantic and fast paced action with saw Irishman
Paul McConway ahead of Geoff Sharp but joint on
points, closely followed by Darren Bridge just
five points behind in round one. No doubt the
racing will be just as exciting to watch as they
battle for podium glory.
With over 60 riders entered in various youth
classes there will be plenty of action throughout
the day as these skilled youngsters battle it
out in a very competitive championship. Event
organiser Margaret Graham commented “QRS
welcomes all competitors and spectators to Duns.
I am pleased to announce that a prize fund is
available. In MX1 there are prizes for each race,
£50 1st place, £30 2nd Place and £20
for 3rd place. The entrance gates to the facility
will be closed at 11pm and spectators are welcome
from 8am onwards with a £5 per car entry
fee.”
There will be 12 races overall plus practice.
The event is due to start at 9:30am with competitors
and spectators alike looking forward to a thrilling
day of racing.
The Duns circuit is situated about 15 miles inland
from Berwick upon Tweed and is easily accessible
from the main routes into Scotland. From the town
of Duns take the A6105 west and turn right by
the sign for the golf course. The postcode for
the venue is TD11 3NS. Further information about
the track can be found at http://www.dunsmotocross.co.uk.
