Yamaha Big Bear 400 4x4 IRS ATV
The Big Bear has long been a mainstay in the Yamaha utility ATV line-up, offering riders On Command® 4WD as well as the option of choosing the gear they want at any time. Many Big Bear fans are also diehard “mudders,” either because they simply enjoy riding in those types of conditions or because that is what is available on their property. To that end, the venerable Big Bear has always been a leader in the mud category. However, the additions of independent rear suspension (IRS), fully-locking differential and a host of other mud-friendly updates are sure to take the 2007 Big Bear to the next level.

For 2007, the Big Bear 400 features the proven air-cooled, torque-producing 386cc SOHC four-stroke engine with great low- to mid-range power that riders have come to know and love. The Mikuni 33mm BSR carburetor feeds the engine and offers excellent throttle response and great overall performance.

The popular five-speed semi-automatic transmission with reverse returns as do the dual hydraulic brakes up front. However, for 2007 the rear brakes get an update – a high-tech sealed wet brake in the rear provides consistent, long-lasting performance regardless of the conditions. The new rear brake system coupled with the addition of diff lock to the 2WD/4WD the On-Command® system and the all-new IRS make this one mean bear in the mud.

For 2007, the addition of the IRS system on the Big Bear makes for a more terrainable bear overall. The travel of the IRS system now matches that of the independent suspension up front – 5.9 inches. Both feature independent double wishbone suspension with five-way preload adjustment, allowing riders to choose the setting that’s best for them, especially if they are hauling a heavy load. And, the IRS system means better overall ground clearance of 10.5 inches.

Of course, if mud is what you’re after, you’ll also appreciate the all-new ITP Mud Lite tires that come stock, high-mounted air-intake and all-new full floorboards, which not only offer superior mud protection, but also all-day comfort.

All of these additions mean one great handling bear not only in the mud but also on tight trails. The Big Bear 400 quickly reacts to rider input and can maneuver through some of the trickiest terrain around. Even on wide-open trails, you’ll appreciate the handling, especially if you are towing loads of up to 904 lbs. via the center-mounted rear hitch. The Big Bear’s hauling ability doesn’t stop there thanks to Duragrip-coated steel racks front and rear, which are capable of carrying a total of 264 additional lbs. (88 lbs. front, 176 lbs. in the rear).

Riding comfort is an important factor in buying any ATV, and the Big Bear 400 4x4 IRS treats its operator to a cushy ride with a specially designed padded seat, wide fenders and inner fender guards that help keep mud and debris off the rider. A large capacity 4-gallon tank keeps it going strong all day long, while a speedometer and odometer/trip meter allows enthusiasts to track their progress while either on the job or at play. A mud-resistant DC outlet brings along the comforts of home to power up cell phones and other portable electronic devices.

The 2007 Big Bear 400 4x4 IRS is available in Hunter Green, Steel Blue and Red at Yamaha dealerships nationwide starting November 2006. The Big Bear 400 4x4 IRS will also be available in Realtree Hardwoods® High Definition Camouflage beginning December 2006.

As if all these updates weren’t enough, the 2007 Big Bear 400 4x4 IRS will also come in an Exploring Edition. The Exploring Edition will feature overfenders for additional mud protection, plastic hand guards, a rear rack extender and front rack bag aboard a Steel Blue machine. The Exploring Editions will hit Yamaha dealerships in December 2006.
