Las Vegas, NV (6/1/2018) -STV
Motorsports’ Nic Granlund finished fourth
in the SXS Pro race during the WORCS weekend
at Iron Mine Race Park in Cedar City, UT.
Granlund was driving a Yamaha YXZ 1000R built
and maintained by STV Motorsports.
The track featured the big air jumps for
which its famous, as well as several traditional
off road sections and an enduro section with
logs and tires. Granlund got an excellent
start in his Packard Performance supercharged
machine, but issues with his intercooler on
the final lap pushed him back to fourth on
the final lap,
In the Pro race, Granlund got an excellent
start and battled with Randy Romo throughout
the race. He fell back outside the top five
in one section, but battled past Romo to secure
fourth in his Packard Performance supercharged
ride.
“I got a great start and was running well,”
said Granlund. “I settled into a good pace
and on the last lap I saw that my temperature
started going up, so I had to back it off.
About five turns from the end, Beau got into
me and pushed me off the track. It was a fairly
aggressive move. I had a strong run going.”
Though he just missed out on the podium in
SXS Pro and he had mechanical issues in Pro
Stock, he is still well in contention for
championships. He sits third in SXS Pro points,
just nine points back and he’s fifth in Pro
Stock.
As WORCS enters its annual summer break,
Granlund’s car is being shipped back to STV.
The car will be completely stripped down and
rebuilt before WORCS racing returns to action
in September. The car is a tribute to STV’s
reliability as it has been used for a full
year and a half.
“This car will go back to STV,” said Granlund.
“We’ll tear it completely down, and straighten
the frame. It’s taken a lot of abuse. This
is the same car we used last year.”
Granlund will reunite with his trusty Yamaha
when the series comes back from the break
at Glen Helen Raceway in Devore, CA September
14-16.
