Scottie Lawrence Podiums at SXS Spring National
Scottie Lawrence's Midwest Spring SXS National UTV Race Report

Pataskala, OH (5/18/2018) - Can-Am/XPS Lubricants/CT Raceworx/Rival Motorsports driver Scottie Lawrence scored a fourth and a third-place finish in the SXS Pro Modified mains during the SXS Midwest Spring Nationals at US Air Motorsports Raceway in Shawano, WI. Lawrence was driving a Can-Am Maverick X3 in the event.

The two-day event was put together by Johnny Greaves, CJ Greaves, and Rodney VanEperen as a way to kick off the Midwest short course off road racing season. It was staged on the asphalt racing surface of a drift car/karting circuit that led into a purpose-built short-course dirt track.

Lawrence was driving the same Can-Am in which Kyle Chaney won the 2017 TORC Pro Modified Championship. In Saturday’s event, Lawrence made progress throughout the day, learning the nuances of driving on the asphalt/dirt racing surfaces, and finished fourth in the main. On Saturday, with some experience under his belt, he quickly made it to third and then held off all challengers to score the podium.

“I had a hard time on the asphalt on Saturday,” explained Lawrence. “Today felt a lot better because I had some experience with it. There was a lot of pressure from behind, so I did my best to protect the inside. This car is just so fast. We’re not even running it at full power right now. That EVO tune is something else.”

In Sunday’s race, Lawrence finished behind mentor Kyle Chaney, who swept the weekend and Cody Miller. He was awed by sharing the podium with them.

“The two guys I’m up here with are legendary in the SXS world, so it’s an honor to be up there with them,” said Lawrence. “Kyle Chaney has been a huge help to me. When Kyle speaks I listen.”

Lawrence was using the event to prepare for the Lucas Oil Midwest Series. The four-race Series, which replaces TORC in the Midwest, kicks off June 15-17 at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway.
