Mesa, AZ (5/22/2018) - Robert VanBeekum scored his first podium of the season during Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series doubleheader at Estero Beach Resort in Ensenada, Mexico. VanBeekum was driving a Polaris RZR XP Turbo in the Production Turbo UTV class.

In Saturday’s race, VanBeekum took on the tricky circuit that featured a sandy racing surface, long straightaways and a technical rhythm section. After passing two cars in the first corner, VanBeekum came out of the halfway point caution in third and held it until the end.

“We just paced it forward and I gave the Polaris all she could handle,” said VanBeekum. “It’s crazy how much this track changes, but I just paced it forward. It’s great to be here in Mexico. The fan base here is amazing. They are true fans here.”

While many in the field had tire issues, VanBeekum’s Maxxis Ceros tires were perfect for the track that started out slick and wet and quickly turned rough and technical.

“The Maxxis Tires did great,” said VanBeekum. “They had a lot of hook up and allowed us to push forward. The Walker Evans shocks got us through the rhythm section and the Muzzy tuning was perfect for the long straightaways. Jimmy with XMF did an excellent job with setup. DragonFire’s support is huge for us and thank you to Polaris RZR for helping us with the car. The Method Wheels held up. No breakage no problem.”

VanBeekum had issues in qualifying on Sunday and the team made repairs prior to the race, replacing the exhaust header. Unfortunately, a cracked head pipe caused the engine to overheat during the race.

“Right off the bat, the car was running super lean and going into limp mode,” said VanBeekum. “On the second lap, I took on too much heat and had to stop. It’s just one of those freak things. We’ll fix it and come back in Missouri even stronger.”

VanBeekum will be back in action as the LOORRS Series next heads to its longest track at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. That doubleheader race is scheduled for June 23-24.
