Tempe, AZ (5/2/2018) - Pro
Motorsports’ Matt Hancock put in two strong
runs in the Pro and Pro Stock classes during
the WORCS Racing weekend at Sand Hollow State
Park in Hurricane, UT.
The event was held in what is traditionally
one of the toughest venues on the tour. The
course was changed this year and featured
more rocky sections, as well as wider passing
zones. In the Pro race, Hancock was running
toward the front of the pack when his belt
started to overheat. He backed it off to finish
sixth.
“I’m trying a few new things this year, and
I have a little bit of a learning curve, but
I’m working my way back toward the front,”
said Hancock. “I was running really smooth
on the first lap, but the belt started to
overheat, so I had to back it down. The last
thing I wanted to do was break a belt and
not finish.”
In Pro Stock, Hancock tucked in behind Randy
Romo at the start and made it up to fourth
on the first lap. After losing four-wheel
drive, he had trouble getting the kind of
corner speeds he needed and fell back to finish
eighth.
“Two races and two finishes, so that’s a
decent weekend,” said Hancock. “I got some
good lines and made it up to fourth on the
first lap. I had some issues with the driveline
and was running two-wheel drive in the first
few laps so I fell back. I still finished
and got some good points. I’ll take that to
the next round and try to finish strong.”
Hancock’s Elka suspension worked perfectly
through the deep sand whoops. The rock sections
were particularly hard on the field, but with
his Maxxis Tires with Tire Blocks, Hancock
knew he’d be able to plow through.
“With all of the rocks, it was just brutal,
so without the Tire Blocks I couldn’t have
finished,” said Hancock. “They gave me the
confidence to hit everything the way I wanted
to and not worry about not getting a finish.
I could run a lot harder in those sections.”
Hancock is ready to take on the second half
of the season. With five races left including
the season finale doubleheader, and a history
of finishing strong, Hancock is pumped up
to get some podium finishes.
“I really picked it up last year after Sand
Hollow and did pretty well,” said Hancock.
“I hope to duplicate that, get some more points
and get some podiums.”
Hancock will start the second half well when
the WORCS Series heads to Iron Mine Race Park
in Cedar City, UT for its next round scheduled
for May 25-27.
