Racing's Paul O'Brien scored two podiums
in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series
opener with a 2nd Place in UTV Production
along with a 3rd Place in UTV Turbo |
In the Production race, O’Brien started on
the third row and made his way cautiously
through the field on the short track. After
making a few key passes early in the race,
he challenged the eventual race winner and
finished second.
“That was a pretty amazing race,” exclaimed
O’Brien. “There were a lot of chances out
there to pass, so I stayed cautious and just
worked my way to the front. You have to be
smart out there or you can get into trouble
really quickly.”
In the Turbo race, O’Brien started on the
back row, but made quick work on the slick
and unforgiving track. He took second late
in the race, but was knocked out of position
on the final lap and finished third.
“I had to work from the back row in sixth
and just made my way forward,” said O’Brien.
“The track was super slick and everyone was
running hard. Ronnie poked his nose in there
pretty hard into turn one. That’s racing.
I know that’s coming next time and I’ll do
the same.”
Weller Racing is preparing both of O’Brien’s
cars this season. Jason Weller was pleased
to see O’Brien podium in two events in two
different manufacturers’ cars in the same
night.
“Paul is awesome,” said Weller. “He is super
consistent and has been doing this for a long
time. He does this for fun, but he has the
best of everything. He knows what he wants
and his program is just dialed.”
O’Brien, too, was impressed with how well
both of his cars worked. Two different cars
make for a much more complicated preparation
process at the track.
“Weller Racing is my whole backing and they
really put in the time into my cars,” said
O’Brien. “Both Yamaha and Can-Am make a top-level
car and I’m very appreciative of that.”
O’Brien will be back in action as the series
next heads to the Estero Beach Resort in Ensenada,
Mexico May 19-20.
