Racing Debut |
Though the class and the vehicle were different,
Bolton is no stranger to BITD competition.
He has competed and won a championship on
his motorcycle in 2016, so he got up to speed
quickly.
“I raced Open Expert on a motorcycle last
year and I won the 300 Expert motorcycle class
championships in 2016,” said Bolton. “It was
a lot different starting later in the day,
and I never really had to race in the dark.
It was a good experience.”
With a limited pit crew and little experience
in UTV racing, he set a goal of just finishing
the tough race. He exceeded expectations and
raised more than a few eyebrows with his awesome
run.
“We had a really good race,” said Bolton.
“We had a small pit crew, but we got a good
finish for the first race of the year. We
stacked up well with the rest of the competition
especially after starting halfway back in
our class. It was a pretty flawless day.”
Bolton brings with him sponsorship from his
family’s business: Multitool USA. The company
manufactures unique bench grinder attachments
and is well known in off road racing. Maxxis,
Alba Racing, and Walker Evans round out his
sponsor list.
“Multitool USA sponsors a lot of off-road
racing, including Factory Kawasaki at the
Supercross races, Northland Motorsports, and
many others,” said Bolton. “We just signed
up with Maxxis this year. We’re really excited
to be part of their program this year. Alba
Racing is building all of our engines and
transmissions. Walker Evans Racing has the
best shocks in off road.”
While his racing effort may have started
small here, Bolton has big plans this year.
Along with multi-car efforts in BITD, he is
also planning to compete in SCORE Series,
and Multitool USA will again help sponsor
multiple events in Mexico including the Baja
Rally, Sonora Rally and Norra Mexican1000
Rally.
“We’ll have multiple cars at the Mint 400
and at Vegas to Reno,” said Bolton. “We’re
also planning to do the Baja 500 and 1000.
We’re going to do the NORRA 1000, which is
one of our main sponsored sports. We’ll also
do the Sonora Rally, the Baja Rally and possibly
the Coast to Coast Rally.”
Next on the calendar is the Mint 400. With
his finish, Bolton will have a nice starting
position for the race, which is scheduled
for March 8-11 in Las Vegas.
