St. George, UT (1/11/2018) –
Mobbin Racing’s Michael Isom teamed up with
engine builder and mechanic Jim Osier and finished
fourth in a difficult Parker 250. Driving a
Can-Am Maverick X3 in the Unlimited class, Isom
was racing in the Best in the Desert season
opener.

The nearly 250-mile long race run over three
laps definitely took its toll on the course
and machines. With chatter bumps getting worse
each lap, Isom and Osier had their hands full
as they worked their way through the tough sand
washes, rocky desert and canyons.
“We had to dig deep for the last hour of the
race,” said Isom. “It was so rough and so dusty.
We were spent, but we toughed it out and we
finished. We had a hard-fought finish. The competition
is getting tougher and tougher which makes it
a lot of fun for us. Our team did a great job
getting us into and out of the pits. We’re going
to regroup and get ready for the Mint.”
The event was being held as a memorial for
BITD founder Casey Folks. Folks passed away
last year after the Parker event. Isom was personally
touched being able to give a heartfelt boo-yah
to the late off road legend.
“I used to race dirt bikes and the 1990s and
I was always around Casey,” said Isom. “Wendy
and I drove down to say ‘hi’ to him last year.
He had a bunch of people around him, so I thought
I’d catch him later. Unfortunately, I wasn’t
able to catch him later.”
For the season opener, the Mobbin Racing Can-Am
Maverick X3 was freshly wrapped by Union Graphics
out of St George, Utah, which run by fellow
desert racer, Corbin Wells.
“Corbin did such a great job on the new design
and wrap for our Maverick, and he is just a
pleasure to work with,” said Isom.

Along with his factory support from Can-Am,
Isom was also pleased to welcome Liqui Moly
lubricants and DWT wheels to his team this year.
Because the race started later, it finished
after dark. Isom appreciated his VisionX lighting
during that grueling final lap.
“Liqui Moly has come on in a big way and so
has DWT Wheels,” said Isom. “VisionX Lighting
was key here. Because of the late start and
the mechanical issues we had, we definitely
needed our lights. They helped a ton.”
Along with engine builder and crew chief, Addict
Racing’s Osier can now add the title “co-driver”
to his lengthy resume as he navigated for Isom
for two laps with trusted pit crew member and
experienced racer James Konces jumping in to
navigate for the final lap.
“It worked because Michael and I communicate
well,” said Osier. “I know what he’s talking
about when he’s trying to explain a problem.
It helps me to dial his car in that much better.”
Isom will welcome back Dr. Michael Buffington
as his co-driver for the next BITD race, the
Mint 400, scheduled for March 8-11 in Las Vegas.
