Payton Mills Scored a Top 10 Finish
at ERX Motor Park |
The Mills came into the weekend with a new
preparation regimen in place on the their
Liqui Moly/Fuel Off Road Yamaha YXZ 1000Rs.
The plan worked perfectly for Payton Mills,
who finished 12th in Friday’s race and 10th
in Saturday’s event.
“The car felt good and I was thoroughly impressed
with how well it handled,” said Payton Mills.
“We’re significantly underpowered compared
to the turbo cars, but our engine is more
dependable. Luke from Beyond Redline really
helped us get dialed in for the races. Joe
Owen and Dan from Rugged Radios came out and
supported us. They got this car to where it
needed to be to be competitive.”
Chris Mills had issues in Friday’s race that
required quick work to ensure he was competitive
in Saturday’s race. His crew came through
for him and he finished 14th in Saturday’s
Pro Stock race.
“The car was as good as it’s ever been,”
said Chris Mills. “It handled great and the
tuning from Beyond Redline was perfect. The
Fuel tires were perfect for the course here
this weekend and the Fuel wheels held up to
a lot of abuse. This is a tough field, but
I think we’re making forward progress now.”

Chris Mills was quick to point out that without
the work off track, he wouldn’t be able to
perform on track. Joe Owen and Dan from All
Terrain Communications were key players this
weekend.
“Joe Owen was a big help on our crew this
weekend because we had some issues on Friday
that he was able to fix,” said Chris Mills.
“Dan from All Terrain Communications comes
out and does a great job. We have a great
crew and things are really starting to gel.”

At the beginning of the season, the Mills3
Team made the call to switch classes between
Chris and Payton Mills from where they competed
in 2017. The move is working.
“Payton is really good at taking care of
a car, and I drive like I’ll never sit in
the car again,” explained Chris Mills. “So
it made a lot of sense for us to switch up
classes this year. Payton is methodical which
is the perfect state of mind in the Modified
class. In the Stock class, the cars are so
equal that it pays to be more aggressive.”
Mills3 Racing will return to Midwest Short
Course League competition when the series
heads to Bark River International Raceway
in Michigan August 10-12.
