Can-Am's Kyle Chaney Takes
Second Straight GNCC Win

Penton GNCC UXC1 UTV Race Report
Pataskala, OH (6/2/2018) - Can-Am/XPS
Lubricants/CT Raceworx driver Kyle Chaney won
his second consecutive UXC1 Pro Turbo UTV race
during the John Penton GNCC at Sunday Creek Raceway
in Millfield, OH. The victory moves Chaney up
to third in points with two rounds left for the
UTV classes.
With ideal track conditions, Chaney had prepared
to go for the win in the race. However, the skies
opened up just prior to the start, so Chaney switched
his strategy to run consistently and try to finish.
Though he started from the second row, he caught
up with the leader on the first lap and then took
the lead for good on lap two. So much for planning.
“About an hour before the race, it down poured
for 20 minutes, so we changed our plans a little
bit to try to cruise and finish,” explained Chaney.
“About halfway through the first lap we had caught
everyone on the first row and passed everyone
except the leader. I followed him for a lap to
let the track break in a little bit. I passed
the leader and the track conditions got really
good the last few laps.”
Chaney had what can only be described as bad
luck in the first two rounds with minor mechanical
issues taking him out of competition. He knows
now that he has to win the final two rounds to
contend for the championship.
“You have to have some luck,” said Chaney. “I
had some bad luck the first couple of rounds,
but now I have two in a row, and hopefully I can
win the last two rounds. It’s going to be tough,
though, but some of the other drivers may have
bad luck. You never know.”
The move to third in points also puts Chaney
on the front row for the next race. Track position
will be key for him as he tries to sweep the rest
of the races.
“I like to get out front and check out,” said
Chaney. “While everyone else is spending the first
few laps trying to get used to the track, that’s
when I like to get away.”
GNCC now enters its summer break and won’t be
back on track until October. In the meantime,
Chaney will be running the Lucas Oil Off Road
Midwest Series beginning at Crandon International
Off-Road Raceway in June.
“I’ll pick up my Lucas car next year and do some
testing before Crandon,” said Chaney, who won
the TORC Series title last year. “We’re changing
a few things for this year, and we should be ready.”
Chaney will be ready to take on the top Midwest
short course racers as the Lucas Oil Midwest Series
kicks off June 15-17 at Crandon. The series will
also visit ERX in Minnesota, and Bark River in
Michigan throughout the summer
