Shawn Hess Scores Second Straight
GNCC Podium Finish
Hess Motorsports Camp Coker
GNCC UXC2 Pro UTV Race Report
Muenster, TX (4/27/2018) - Hess
Motorsports’ Shawn Hess scored his second consecutive
podium, finishing third in the Camp Coker Bullet
GNCC in Society Hill, SC. Driving a Yamaha YXZ
1000R, Hess was running just his second ever race
in the UXC2 Pro class. Austin Sides finished second
in the UTV Masters class, driving a Hess Motorsports
Yamaha.
Hess made his debut in the class at the last
race, finishing third. After starting in the dust,
Hess caught the line in front of him quickly and
visibility became a serious issue. Relying on
his instincts, he managed to make it past the
lappers and into clear air.
“CJ Greaves and I battled back and forth early
in the race,” explained Hess. “The track was just
crazy dusty and we were laughing that both of
us were stopping and waving each other past because
we couldn’t see our hands in front of our faces.
Finally the dust cleared enough that we were able
to take off.”
The rough course and the deep sand made for a
hard charge for Hess. Despite that, his Yamaha
made it through and he’s well into the points
chase at the midpoint of the season.
“Dust was a big factor for us today,” said Hess.
“We caught up to the lines in front of us pretty
quickly. The track was tough, but we persevered
and the Yamaha was tough today.”
Sides was competing in just his second UTV Masters
race for drivers aged 45 or older. Driving a Yamaha
equipped with all of the Hess Motorsports hop
ups, he finished second, scoring his first GNCC
podium.
“I’m really happy with the Sehorn’s Yamaha YXZ
1000 and especially the Hess Motorsports products
we run on it,” said Sides. “All of the parts they
make are on the car and working well.”
Sides appreciated the adaptability of the Yamaha
platform. He ran the same car in the UTV World
Championship desert race two weeks ago before
changing out a few parts to compete in the GNCC
race.
“It’s a testament to the YXZ platform,” said
Sides. “You can run a desert race one weekend
and a cross country race the next.”
Hess Motorsports will return to GNCC UTV competition
during the John Penton May 26-27 at Sunday Creek
Raceway in Millfield, OH.
