Bakersfield, CA (3/21/2018)
- H&M Motorsports’ David Haagsma grabbed
the holeshot and dominated the WORCS SXS Pro
Turbo race in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Driving
the 51FIFTY Polaris RZR XP Turbo, Haagsma
scored his first win of the season and took
the SXS Pro Production points lead.
With Havasu’s typical tight, technical, and
rocky course, Haagsma knew track position
was going to be key. After taking the holeshot,
he immediately began checking out and held
on for the dominant win. After just missing
the victory and finishing second in the last
race, the win came at a perfect time and extends
his points lead.
“The Sparks Engine and Maxxis Tires gave
me another good jump, just like last week,”
said Haagsma. “I had a big gap toward the
middle of the race, but my crew told me on
the pit board that Bradbury was catching me
on time. So I did two quick laps and was able
to win it. “
With Maxxis Tires with Tire Blocks and Fox
Shocks on his Polaris, Haagsma made navigating
the course look easy. The tight track made
passing nearly impossible, so getting in front
and staying there was the key to victory.
“The course was a lot of fun,” said Haagsma.
“It was really tight, but the car worked really
well there. The suspension worked great. Overall,
we had a really good weekend with really good
weather, and great results.”
The rocks were especially tough on other
competitors. Many top drivers fell out with
broken wheels. Haagsma’s Method wheels, however,
came out scratched up, but totally intact.
“Ever since we’ve switched to Method, we
haven’t had any wheel-related issues,” said
Haagsma. “This course is rocky, so when you
come into a corner your wheels just smash
into the rocks. They got scratched up, but
they held up. The Maxxis Tires with Tire Blocks
also helped. I always know I won’t have tire
or wheel issues.”
Haagsma is driving a Polaris RZR XP Turbo
he built last year, but raced for the first
time in round one. With more power, it took
a few races for Haagsma to get it completely
dialed in.
“We’ve had great luck with the Polaris RZR
Turbo,” said Haagsma. “It took me a little
time to get used to it because it is so much
faster than my NA car. It has a little more
suspension and a lot more power. I’m really
enjoying racing now and we’re getting good
results.”
Haagsma is now well on his way to a third
WORCS championship and will look for another
dominant run at the next race, being held
at Sand Hollow State Park in Hurricane, UT
April 27-29.
