Moreno Valley, CA (5/2/2018) –
BDR Motorsports / Polaris’ Larry Heidler overcame
a near crash to finish 12th in the WORCS Series
race at Sand Hollow State Park in Hurricane,
UT. Heidler was driving a Polaris RZR XP1000
Turbo in the Pro class.
The race was held in the notoriously rough
dunes at Sand Hollow. This year’s course was
changed to allow for more passing opportunities
and officials added rock sections. In addition,
the course featured deep sand whoops and even
an asphalt road section.
Heidler snagged his second consecutive holeshot
and was immediately charging. After losing
a position, he was back on it, but hit a hard
kicker coming of the asphalt section of the
course and nearly crashed. He drove through
it, overcame a broken shifter and finished.
“My GBC Tires got me off to a great start,”
said Heidler. “The course was really rocky
and I charged as hard as I could. We hit a
bad kicker on the second lap and almost wadded,
but I stayed in the gas and was full power
tires off the ground. I hit hard and the Super
ATV Axles did their job. Any other axle would
have broken.”
Heidler was running Tire Blocks in his GBC
Dirt Commanders and was happy to have them.
Despite the sharp rocks causing three of his
tires to lose pressure, he still finished
the race. He relied on great power provided
by Queen and his Fox Shocks to soak up the
bumps.
“Anyone not running Tire Blocks out there
definitely didn’t make it to the finish,”
said Heidler. “Queen has done some work on
the engine that gave me a lot more power.
Without the Fox Shocks, I probably wouldn’t
have any teeth left because that course was
just brutally rough.”
Heidler heads to Cedar City, UT for the next
race on the WORCS schedule. Heidler made his
debut in a turbo car there last season and
looks forward to coming back with more experience
under his belt.
“I’m excited for Cedar City,” said Heidler.
“It’s a fun track and I have lot more seat
time in the turbo car. I love the big motocross
section on the inside. Prep is already underway.”
Heidler will be back in action, driving with
Ryan Piplic in the Silver State 300 Best in
the Desert race May 3-6. He’ll then head to
Iron Mine Race Park in Cedar City, UT for
the next round of WORCS competition May 25-27.
