Derron Oakley Wins GNCC XC2
UTV Championship
Middletown, OH (10/30/2017)
- Derron Oakley won the GNCC XC2 Pro Sport UTV
Championship in his Can-Am Maverick after winning
the second-to-last round of competition at Powerline
Park in St. Clairsville, OH.
Oakley was in just his second year of UTV competition
and his first year in the GNCC XC2 class. His
rookie status didn’t show this year as he won
two races and scored three additional podium finishes.
The Powerline Park victory was the final piece
of the puzzle for Oakley this season.

“We didn’t have a good start and I was fighting
a bad head cold,” explained Oakley. “I realized
I was falling back at the start, so I had to pull
myself together. A couple of opportunities showed
themselves and I made some passes. I took the
lead and stayed out front the whole race. It was
a struggle because I knew they were on my bumper
the majority of the race. I had to really focus
and stay on point to come home with the win.”
Oakley started his career in motorcycle racing,
but an injury forced him to retire from the moto
ranks. When he discovered UTV racing last year,
Oakley was hooked and has been running strong
ever since.

“When I got into UTVs last year I saw it as an
opportunity to get back into racing,” said Oakley.
“With age comes the cage as they say. I’ve had
a ball this year. I set my goal to win the championship
in my second year in UTVs and I did it.”
For 2017, Oakley teamed up with Can-Am factory
driver, Kyle Chaney, and racing the proven Can-Am
Maverick, which he credits to his success in the
XC2 class.
“Can-Am just builds a heck of a machine and it’s
been on top all year,” said Oakley. “The Chaney
Racing crew helped us a lot this season. I’m very
fortunate to be a part of a great team.”
Oakley will return to GNCC competition next season
