David Martinez Top Ten in BITD Pro Turbo Championship
David Martinez BITD Nugget 250 Pro Turbo UTV Race Report

Newport Beach, CA (12/7/2017) – David Martinez finished out the season strong with a consistent effort in his Polaris RZR in the Pahrump Nugget 250. The event was the season finale for the Best in the Desert Series and was held in the desert surrounding Pahrump, NV.

The track was in a word: “brutal.” Rocks, visibility-sapping dust, and silt beds whittled down the starting field considerably at the finish. Martinez held strong and had a relatively issue-free day, finishing 13th.

“It took everything we had to get that finish today, and we got it done,” said Martinez. “We just wanted to get all of the bugs worked out of our new Polaris and come into 2018 ready to go. We’re on pace to get on the box, and we’re just having new car blues. These courses out here are going to push it.”

While the overall results may not show it, Martinez has made huge strides in developing his Polaris RZR Turbo. He has made progress every race and the car is now fully developed just in time to kick off 2018.

“We’ve really progressed this year,” said Martinez. “It’s a completely different type of racing running with Polaris, and Johnny Angal with UTV Inc' was a bit help.”

An important part of his success this year has been ITP Tires. While many in the field run flat prevention devices, Martinez said he doesn’t need them. In what was likely the most difficult course on tires this season, he was proven right.

“This was, by far, the gnarliest course of the season,” said Martinez. “It has the most jagged rocks I’ve ever seen and we had just one flat with no Tire Balls and no Tire Blocks. The ITP Tires held up great.”

Despite losing all of his transmission oil during the event, Motul’s leading film protection held up and allowed him to finish the race. “We lost all of the oil out of the transmission and it didn’t lock up, so that says a lot about Motul,” said Martinez. “We’re just happy to finish out the season on a high note.”

Martinez will kick off the 2018 BITD season in just a few weeks as the series will hold round one January 5-6. The Casey Folks Parker 250 is being held in Parker, AZ.
