Martinez raced 2015 BITD UTV Grand Champion Johnny
Angal’s personal car in the event. Despite rough
conditions on the 100-plus-mile circuit, Martinez
ran a consistent race to net the top five.
“The Polaris RZR was all that today,” said Martinez.
“These RZRs are something else. We stepped up
with the program this year and the car is just
badass. The course was really rough this year,
but it wasn’t anything the car couldn’t take.”
Johnny's car hauls ass.
In a race that featured 110 entries in the UTV
class, most of the drivers barely made a lap before
retiring from the event. Martinez, on the other
hand, had few issues during the three-lap race.
Angal and UTV, Inc. will have Martinez’s new RZR
ready for the next round.

issues during the three-lap race, unlike
many other racers that barely made it
through one lap

“The UTV Inc. race car was just rocking today,”
said Martinez. “We had no issues with the car
all day. Until 30 miles into the last lap we got
a nasty sidewall gash and had to stop and change
the rear tire. I quickly realized I had to make
a hard decision on how I would continue as I lost
my 3rd place position changing the tire, but there
was still 80 miles to go to finish. Do I get back
in the car and try and track down driver Ellstrom
and risk pushing to hard and possibly get another
flat and now having no spare I thought to myself,
I can go for the glory and take chance to grab
back my spot or play it safe stay in a smooth
fast pace to the finish and not lose another position.
I decided to make the mature decision and not
risk it and grab some good points and head to
World Championship and live to fight the good
fight another day. We’ll have the new UTV Inc.
race car ready for the World Championship. We’re
going to kick it up another notch at World Championship.
We are coming for that top spot by all means necessary
with a no mercy mentality."
Martinez won the Unlimited class race in last
year’s Mint 400, his debut in the race. He is
impressed by the growth of the event from last
season.
“Just to see the growth even from last year is
amazing,” said Martinez. “It seems like the event
has doubled in size and it was a huge show.
Martinez will be racing his new Polaris RZR XP
4 Turbo when the BITD Series heads to Laughlin,
NV for the UTV World Championship, April 14-15.
