The unique two-day event was run at the same track used earlier this year in the UTV World Challenge. Finishing times from each day’s race were added together with the lowest time winning. Driving the Lonestar/Fox/ITP Can-Am, Derek Murray ran day one, while Jason Murray drove on day two and overcame an electrical gremlin to grab the top five overall.

“Our goal was to run consistently and keep the car together on day one,” said Derek Murray. “We knew the second day was going to be rougher and we knew the long wheelbase car was better when it’s rough. We weren’t happy with our pace on day one, so we pushed harder on day two. Unfortunately, about four miles from the finish, the car went into limp mode. Luckily we were running at 75 mph when it happened and we coasted for awhile.”

ITP Tires combined with Lonestar Suspension and Fox Shocks were the right combination for the fast course.  “We were running the 30” Ultra Cross ITP Tires and we had no flats and no issues,” said Murray. “They are the most reliable and proven desert tire on the market. The Lonestar Suspension and Fox Shocks were amazing today as well on the rough track.”

The Murray’s are looking forward to the Vegas to Reno race. The long course race suits their style. “We don’t do as well in the short-course races,” said Derek Murray. “We’re looking forward to Vegas to Reno because we do better on the longer races.”

Jason Murray agreed. He’s pleased with their finish, as well as their unofficial third place in points. “This was a drag race-style event,” said Murray. “Finishing in the top five and being third in points puts us in the hunt. The Vegas to Reno race is more suited to our style of racing. We like the long and technical events.”

The Murrays will be the duo to watch as BITD runs it’s longest race of the year, the Vegas to Reno August 17-19.
