Can-Am's David Martinez Top Five at Laughlin BITD
Can-Am Maverick Racer David Martinez Race Report

Laughlin, NV (5/12/2016) -  Can-Am’s David Martinez finished fifth in the two-day Laughlin Desert Classic, Round 4 of the Best in the Desert Off Road Championship. Martinez was competing in his Can-Am in the UTV Unlimited Class.

The event was run over two days with a four-lap race held each day. The finish was determined based on combined times. Martinez was running first in class on day one, when he stopped to help a fellow competitor, whose UTV had caught fire.

“That put us second on Saturday,” explained Martinez. “We were excited coming into day two. We felt great. The Maverick was great. This was, by far, the best I’ve driven the car all year. It was the most comfortable car setup we have had all year that made it a blast to drive."

Drive belt problems slowed Martinez on day two. He rebounded to finish fifth and was pleased with the result. “It just one of those things,” said Martinez. “It was a lot snappier track so it was harder on the belts.”

The technical and demanding course was no match for Martinez’s Can-Am. His S3 Suspension, FOX Shocks and ITP Tires were again perfect during the race weekend.

“The S3 Suspension was just flawless again this weekend,” said Martinez. “It took everything we threw at it. Going through the Fox Proving Ground, they handled it with ease. Combined with the Fox Shocks, it was unreal. We worked many hours with Wayne at FOX over the last few weeks getting the tuning on the shocks right. That made all of the difference. We were really able to push with more speed and be more aggressive. The car was on rails.

“With our ITP Tires,  we didn’t have any flats or issues,” added Martinez. “They’ve been nothing but flawless all season. The Ultra Cross, I can’t say enough good things about those tires. The HMF Exhaust gave us the extra added horsepower to get off the line, Motul lubricants kept the car cool all weekend, and Rugged Radios made sure our communication was crystal clear.”

Martinez will be back and ready to run as BITD takes it summer break before heading to Las Vegas for the annual Vegas to Reno race August 17-20.
