SSI / Maxxis rider Chad Wienen raced to 2-2
moto finishes while TBrown84 / Maxxis / Yamaha’s
Thomas Brown went 3-3 in the third round of
the 2015 AMA Pro ATV series in Blountville,
Tenn. on Saturday, May 2. Wienen’s consistency
paid off, with second place overall for the
day keeping him in the points lead over event
winner Joel Hetrick. And Brown’s podium performance
was equally valuable, moving the Yamaha rider
up to third in standings as rival John Natalie
faltered.

Tennessee’s Muddy Creek Raceway was anything but muddy for a full program of AMA ATV racing, with bright sun greeting racers filling an amazing 39 classes. In the first of two motos, Wienen got away only in midpack, and had to ride furiously to break into the top three behind Hetrick and YFZ-mounted Brown on the ninth of 11 laps. He then snuck around Brown on the final lap to give the Yamaha duo their 2-3 finishes in the first moto.

To get the overall win, Wienen needed to beat Hetrick in the second moto, and he nearly did so. Although Hetrick again grabbed the holeshot, both Brown and Wienen were right in his draft. Wienen passed Brown for second on lap two, and then chased down and passed Hetrick for the lead on the fourth of 11 laps, holding the advantage for the next six laps. But two laps from the end Hetrick uncorked the fastest lap of the race to retake the lead, ultimately beating Wienen to the flag by just 1.565 seconds. Brown followed in third, narrowly ahead of rival Jeffrey Rastrelli.
