Henderson, NV (12/14/2015) - Can-Am/ITP/Lonestar
Racing’s Jason and Derek Murray finished fifth
at the Henderson 250 to clinch a top three overall
finish in the Best in the Desert Pro UTV championship
points race, which was their 38th consecutive
finish in the BITD series.
The pair was sitting in fifth place heading
into the Henderson 250, and placed great pressure
on themselves to reach a top three position
in the championship. With some phenomenal
driving, they accomplished their goal of third
with the tie-breaker advantage over Jagged
X Racing.

“We started 19th, going two at a time off
the line every 30 seconds. We came out of
the box really hard and got up to eight physically
in the first 30 miles,” explained Derek Murray.
By the end of the first lap the pair was within
a few minutes of the leader’s time.
According to Derek Murray, this was one of
the rockiest, roughest, and most challenging
Henderson 250’s they have ever run. The challenging
conditions seemed to be no match for the Can-Am
machine and the Murray’s skill. “The Can-Am
rode awesome. Its amazing you can take a motor
and transmission and run them virtually wide
open for 30-40 hours straight at the Baja
1000, then turn around and run sprint races
like Henderson and keep them together like
they do. It’s pretty remarkable how reliable
that Can-Am is. It goes to show with 38 consecutive
finishes at the Best in the Desert. Having
a good product like the Can-Am allows us to
do that,” said Derek Murray.

Derek Murray also credits the team’s success
to the remarkable ITP tires. “To not have
a flat out there just blows my mind. It’s
amazing the tires hold up and do what they
do at those speeds.”
By the end of the brutal 160 mile race, Murray
Racing worked their way up fifth on time.
Though the team was striving for an even better
finish, it was enough to land them third place
in the championship.
Although the 2015 season has come to an end,
the Murray’s are already focusing on their
plans for 2016. “Our plans for 2016 are to
run all of the Best in the Desert series in
the turbo class,” explained Derek Murray.
