Crawfordsville, IN (11/5/2015) - The Maxxis Tires / Precision Stabilizers backed Chris Bithell earned the final podium of his professional ATV racing career at the concluding round of the Grand National Cross Country Series. Bithell’s ATV Innovation powered Suzuki powered off the line in a mid-pack position. He was able to ride intelligently and move into third position as the fast pack of riders entered the woods. Bithell remained up front, battling back and forth for the early race.

“The early race was a ton of fun, we were all pretty tight and battled back and forth. I would grab the lead and then swap back with McGill and McClure. We were all having a blast and started to pull away from the rest of the pack,” regarded Bithell.

Bithell came through scoring on lap three in third position with just ten seconds separating the top three. He continued to hold his position as he went for the final lap through the steep Ironman hills and gnarly mud holes.

“The final lap was rough. I was really starting to tire and I thought I was running in fourth, and then some random guy in the wood gave me the three fingers, saying I was in third. In my head, I was like ‘there’s no way’ and then thought ‘well maybe’ and I gave it all I had for the final few miles. If there was a possibility that I could end my career on the podium I wanted to make it a reality,” said Bithell.

Bithell’s last lap surge paid off and the Pennsylvania native pulled off a third place finish. He earned the final podium spot with 18.609 to spare over fourth position.

“I don’t think I could have asked for a better day! The racing was phenomenal, the track was perfect and the fans were wild! I had such a good time today! It seemed there was a group of rowdy fans at every turn cheering us on and it made the race so much better. This is one of my favorite tracks, not only because of the terrain, but also the atmosphere the fans create! My #7 Maxxis / Precision Suzuki was on point all day and this turned in to a great day to end my career. I want to send a huge thank you to my family, my friends, my sponsors and my fans, I could not have done any of this without them,” regarded Bithell after the finish at Ironman.

The Ironman GNCC was the last race of Bithell’s professional ATV racing career. Bithell announced his retirement earlier this season, citing his new job and a lack of time for wrenching and training as driving factors in the decision. Bithell did mention, depending on his work schedule, he hopes to return on a part time basis to co-pilot the Chaney Racing / Can-Am Maverick with Kyle Chaney. The duo wrapped up their second SxS National Championship at Ironman and are looking for a third in 2016.
