Joel Hetrick Wins Moto One & Fastest Qualifier

Joel Hetrick grabbed the ATVriders.com Fastest Qualifier Award along wit both SSi Decals Holeshot Awards & finished fourth overall in the ATV Motocross Pro class at Round 1

Echeconnee MX played host to the opening round of the 2015 ATV Motocross season. The Georgia track was technical, and its sandy soil broke down quickly to a clay base, which made it extremely rough and challenging for pro motos. The rough track didn’t hinder Joel Hetrick at all, who was the fastest qualifier during pro practice and was awarded first gate pick for pro moto one.

The good gate pick, combined with Hetrick’s speed, gave him the moto one holeshot, and he quickly pulled away from the rest of the field battling for position. “My Maxxis Tires hooked up great and my DASA motor pulled hard out of the gate for the holeshot in moto one, and  Elka shocks really made the difference for me on the rough track,” said Hetrick.

Hetrick held an impressive lead of over eight seconds by the fifth lap, and he held his dominate lead all the way to the checkered flag for the moto one win. “It felt good to get that first moto win. I got that holeshot and while everyone else was battling, I was able to pull away,” said Hetrick.

For the second moto, Hetrick’s DASA engine and Maxxis tires once again powered him into the early lead with yet another Holeshot, but he quickly came under fire for the lead. “Chad Wienen was right there, and I made a mistake and got into him and came off the quad. I got back on and worked my way back up to seventh,” said Hetrick, who earned a respectable fourth overall for the day.

Hetrick is confident after the first round of the season and is currently second in series points. “I’m glad it happened sooner in the season rather than later. I’m only a few points behind and I am hoping to make that up soon. It was still a good start to the season, and I can’t wait for Texas,” said Hetrick, who only has a six point deficit off the points lead.

Round number two of the 2015 Mt. Dew AMA ATV Motocross Championships heads to Underground MX in Kemp, Texas on April 18-19 where Joel Hetrick plans to put his #88 on top of the podium.
