Jarrod McClure Racing’s (JMR) rider Jarrod McClure
secured his first top five finish at round three
of the Grand National Cross Country series this
past weekend in Morganton NC finishing the day in
the fourth position. JMR teammate XC2 Pro Am racer
Randy Hamilton raced his way from the back of his
class to settle for seventh for the day in the XC2
class.
Round three of the GNCC series has been coming
to the Steele Creek campground for sometime now
so the track has become well known to many racers.
Steep uphills, downhills, sandy whooped out creek
sections, and almost no passing is what this track
brings to the table. The weather conditions were
near perfect for the weekend so racers were expecting
some really good dirt out there and virtually
no dust or mud.
DWT’s McClure had his best start of the season
today going into the woods in the third position
behind Brent Sturdivant. Jarrod was able to make
a pass on Brent and the leader, and by the end
of lap one was leading the race.
“I finally got the start I needed out there,
it just seems like the start is so important anymore.
The class has gotten a lot faster and the intensity
is high, you got to be all in from start to finish
and if you not out front in the beginning it is
hard, I have a solid program this season and with
finally getting some seat time at home I plan
on seeing only better and better results” said
McClure.
McClure was in the lead until racers hit the
famous creek crossing under the bridge where Jay
Shadron pulled an outside line around the mud
and was able to get by him. Jarrod remained in
the top five all day even with positions juggling
around a lot on the last lap. At the checkered
flag it was McClure in fourth position only six
tenths of a second behind Shadron.
“It was real nice to get out front today and
run with the leaders, it really opened my eyes
to the pace, everyone is really fast this year.
I had an awesome battle with Jay Shadron on that
last lap and want to congratulate him on his first
podium,” said McClure.
JMR’s XC2 Pro Am racer Randy Hamilton began his
day near the back of the 26-rider XC2 class after
a pile-up in the start of the race. He charged
through the pack every lap, and was able to break
into the top ten finishing seventh for the day
at round three.
After three rounds of racing Jarrod McClure sits
sixth in the XC1 Pro class and his teammate Randy
Hamilton is holding down fourth in the Pro Am
class. The JMR team will be ready to go at round
four in two weeks at Big Buck.
