Bakersfield, CA (1/21/2015) - H&M Motorsports/Maxxis Tire’s Beau Baron and David Haagsma claimed first and second on the Pro ATV podium at round one of the 2015 WORCS Racing Series, while David Haagsma made his debut in the SxS Pro class and claimed a solid second place finish.

Baron and Haagsma went one and two in series championship points in the Pro ATV class last season and are on their way to making that happen again this year after taking first and second place finishes in the season opener. Baron, the defending Pro ATV champion, was second off the starting line right behind his teammate. Baron applied the pressure for the entire first half of the race. “I was right on David and we got to this downhill section and I took a big chance and went outside and made the pass,” said Baron.

Baron fell back to second briefly when he stopped for fuel, but got back out front and held his lead all the way to the checkered flag for his first win of the season. “It was a big deal for me to win the season opener. You never know what’s going to happen and how hard everyone has been working. David obviously did his homework. He was flying today, but I managed to pull it off and that makes me happy. Our Sparks engines were running great and our Elka Shocks worked well even with all the square edges out there,” said Baron.

David Haagsma, who had grabbed the Pro ATV holeshot, was looking strong in the first half of the race as he defended his lead from Baron. “I had a great start and edged Beau out. He was right behind me and then he got a better line and got around me. I tried to put some time on him when he pulled in the pits, but he got back around me. I am still happy with my finish; this is the best start to the season for me so far. I always want to win but I will take it for now and hopefully get the win in Primm,” said Haagsma.

This season David Haagsma stepped up to the SxS Pro class and showed he has what it takes to run with the top guys. “I had a good start with my Sparks engine and was in third. It was kind of a rude awakening to see how fast these guys are out here and what it takes to run with them in the Pro class, but I think if I get some more seat time in, I can compete for a championship,” said Haagsma.

Haagsma kept a solid, fast pace and claimed a second place finish in his first SxS Pro race. “The course was great. It’s nice to get a good start to the year. I’m pumped, it’s nice to show the sponsors that I can do it and now I’ve got to keep on the podium so we’ll see how it goes,” said Haagsma.

Beau Baron, who is also the reigning champ in the SxS Pro class was off to a good start and was going for the lead, but he ended up having an issue with his belt and fell back for a sixth place finish.
