H&M Motorsports David Haagsma Clinches Championship
Beau Baron Takes Pro ATV Win, David Haagsma Takes Two Podiums

WORCS Racing - Round 9

Bakersfield, CA (10/23/2015) - H&M Motorsports’ Beau Baron and David Haagsma finished first and second in the Pro ATV class at Round 9 of the WORCS Series. Haagsma clinched the WORCS ATV Pro Championship and backed up his ATV efforts with a second-place finish in the UTV Pro race with another second place finish at the season finale. Collins Webster finished fifth in the Pro ATV races.

Intermittent rain and mild temperatures during the race weekend resulted in tacky and fast racing conditions, which worked in favor of both Haagsma and Baron.

In the Pro ATV race, Haagsma snagged the lead on the first lap with Baron in chase. Baron short pitted during the middle stages of the race and only took fuel, which allowed him to take over the lead, which held to the checkered flag for his fifth win of the season.

“Everything was working great on the Elka / Sparks Honda all weekend,” said Baron. “The track had a little less chop and high pace due to the rain. Today the track was a lot faster than normal. All in all, it was a fun course. The Maxxis Tires and Elka Suspension worked great as always.”

Haagsma’s ATV title run came as the result of five victories, and five additional runner-up finishes. In fact, Haagsma never finished out of the top two all season. Haagsma is heading to the East Coast next season and plans to run the full ATV Motorcross Nationals season. Winning the WORCS title was an important milestone for Haagsma before moving on.

“I didn’t want to quit this until I got a championship,” said Haagsma. “I’ll come to the WORCS races whenever I can, so I should run about half of the rounds next year. To join the elite group of WORCS champions over the years is an important part of my career.”

In the UTV Pro Race, Baron finished fifth after recording one of the most dominant holeshots of the season. Baron had elected to run smaller tires and, while they worked great at the start, the setup slowed his car in the long run. In all, Baron recorded four UTV podiums this season and finished third in points.

“I was sick of not getting holeshots all year, so I put smaller tires on my car,” said Baron. “I didn’t take the time to adjust my suspension or anything. I also did some clutching changes. It ripped at the start, but on the straightaway it was topping out. I could only block them for so long. I didn’t have the right setup, but it was so fun leading for a few laps.”

Haagsma’s conservative strategy came up just short at the end and he settled for second. Haagsma finished second in UTV points this season on the merit of three victories and three additional podiums.

“I paced myself too much today and that was a mistake,” said Haagsma. “I tried to reel in the leader, but we got in some lappers and I just ran out of time. I finished second today and second in the championship. We had some minor mishaps with belts on our car this year, so without that, we’d be right there. But that’s racing.”

Webster rounded out the top five in the Pro ATV race, and he finished out the year fourth in points despite missing the first two races to the season.

One again, the H&M Motorsports’ Team finished first and second in the Pro ATV ranks with the team claiming every win of the season, and the pair finished out the season in the top three in the Pro UTV ranks as well.
