Bakersfield, CA (6/17/2015) - Maxxis/H&M Motorsports’ David Haagsma took his personal best finish with fourth overall at round six of the Mt. Dew AMA ATV Motocross National Championship series in Walnut, IL.

Haagsma competed at Sunset Ridge MX, which would only be his second appearance at a Mt. Dew AMA ATV Motocross National series this season. Heavy rains saturated the track on Friday, but by the time the first pro moto rolled around on Saturday, the motocross track was in prime condition for the highly anticipated racing action.

H&M Motorsports' David Haagsma finished top five in Moto One

A mid-pack start in moto one forced Haagsma to dig deep and work through the pack, picking off racers one by one until he landed an impressive fifth place finish aboard his H&M Motorsports/Maxxis backed Honda. “ I started off somewhere around eleventh. It was pretty much chaos the first couple laps, and I just tried to slowly work my way up,” said Haagsma. After using up valuable time and energy working through the pack, the top four leaders were too far gapped out from Haagsma for him to mount a charge, so he rode smart, and settled in for a solid fifth place finish.

Track conditions changed drastically for moto two after a heavy rain shower saturated the sandy soil of Sunset Ridge MX before the race began. Haagsma’s Maxxis tires propelled him off the gate to a solid start around sixth place, and he only went forward from there. After switching his setup for the wet conditions Haagsma commented, “My Maxxis tires hooked up great, we switched to the bigger tires for the second moto because of the mud, and they worked out perfect.”

Maxxis David Haagsma scored a fourth place finish in Moto Two, which secured a ATV MX career best fourth overall

Haagsma would run in fifth place for the majority of moto two, steadily closing in on the fourth place racer. “With two laps left to go, I knew I needed to make a move, so I pinned it, and the second to last lap I was able to get by him,” said Haagsma, who would finish the moto in fourth place.

Maxxis/H&M Motorsports’ David Haagsma’s 5-4 moto finishes would lead him to his best overall finish yet, fourth place. “ I was excited. I always want to compete with the top guys, but for me it was a great finish,” said Haagsma.

This confidence boosting finish will motivate Haagsma as he prepares for his next Mt. Dew. AMA ATV National appearance, but he will have to wait until round eight at Unadilla MX, in New Berlin, NY on July 11th because of conflicts with his other racing events.
